Oscar Awards 2012: Best Dressed at the Vanity Fair Party

The red carpet at the Oscar Awards may have had its thunder well and truly stolen! Not only was red the top choice for the ceremony, the regal hue was also a favourite with  partygoers at the legendary Vanity Fair post-ceremony bash.

Heading up the reds was Claire Danes who gets our vote in a vibrant Valentino number that was pure Hollywood royalty. Similarly, Natalie Portman looked every inch the princess in the same polka dot vintage Dior gown she wore on the red carpet earlier that evening. But the most popular silhouette for partying fun was classic and slim-fitting a la Cameron Diaz, Abbie Cornish and Rosie Huntington Whiteley, who was resplendent in figure-hugging Antonio Berardi). There were a few sexy surprises thrown in too - Kate Hudson's vintage Versace number was demure from the front but the plunging back was pure siren, whilst Diane Kruger's classic column dress by Calvin Klein had a daring cutaway front with a lacey bra-style top underneath. Saucy!

Elsewhere, Jennifer Lopez lead the way for metallics, swapping her cream-coloured ceremony dress for a bronze sequinned Zuhair Murad number that featured a trademark J-Lo neckline - ie: plunging! Kristen Wiig was the poster girl for pretty-pretty dresses with her feathered nude J. Mendel floor-sweeper and our very own Victoria Beckham opted for sleek and simple in a dove-grey column dress from - you guessed it! - her own label. Amy Adams also went British with a knee-length silver corset dress courtesy of Vivienne Westwood. We approve!

Black remained a red carpet staple, but the detail du jour was see-through panelling. Zoe Saldana, Elizabeth Olsen and Emma Stone all happily obliged and Emma's Chanel gown scored double trend points with a perfect peplum to boot! As for Kate Bosworth and Ginnifer Goodwin, they boldly slashed their hemlines for a standout look.

Last but not least, plaudits have to go to Rosario Dawson for being one of the only revellers to embrace clashing brights - though we're not sold on the dress, it's great to see some out-there choices!
