Orlando Bloom has said that his and Katy Perry's missing dog Mighty has died.

Last week, the actor publicly pleaded for information as he offered up a reward for the safe return of his beloved pet.

However, Wednesday saw the Pirates Of The Caribbean star take to Instagram to disclose Mighty's passing.

He wrote: "Mighty’s on the other side now. After 7 days of searching from sunrise to sunset and into the wee hours, today, the 7th day ~the number of completion~ we found his collar...

“I have wept more this week than I thought possible, which has been very cathartic and healing..."

Bloom said he had left "no stone unturned" in his search and also used to sniffer dogs to help him locate Mighty.

The 43-year-old went on: "I feel so grateful to have learned from my little Mighty man that love is eternal and the true meaning of devotion.

“I feel sure he was looking down on me whistling in every back yard and knowing that I was doing all I possibly could to respect our bond.

"He was more than a companion. It was a soul connection for sure. I’m sorry. I love you. Thank you. RIP my MIGHTY HEART my little fellow A."

Bloom continued by thanking those in his community who had assisted in the search effort, as well as tattoo artist Scott Campbell for tattooing the dog's name on his chest.

The post was accompanied by a video of Bloom crying while getting the tattoo, of an ace of spades inside a heart inked under Mighty's name.

Perry shared her fiancé’s post, adding: “We’ll miss our little buddy boy, Nugget’s brother so much. Forever a paw shaped hole in our hearts.”

Bloom is known for his devotion to his pets: following the death of another dog, Sidi, he decided to have the skeleton cleaned and mounted in his house.
