Prime Minister Liz Truss has insisted her tax cutting proposals are the ‘right plan’ as she was quizzed by local BBC radio presenters across the country on Thursday morning.

She took part in short interviews for several local stations, to respond to criticism of what she admitted were ‘controversial’ plans for the economy.

The PM insisted that she will persevere with her and Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng’s mini-budget announced last week, which resulted in the pound falling to an all-time low.

The Bank of England was also forced to take action to stabilise the economy, committing to buying billions of pounds of government bonds, after a flurry of investors sold off their shares of government debt.

It’s been a tough week for the Prime Minister, and with the Conservative Conference looming, she will need to rebuild trust and reinstate confidence in her economic plans.

The Evening Standard’s Deputy Political Editor David Bond discusses Liz Truss’s performance on her local radio appearances, and what she can do to reinstate some confidence among Tory MPs, as well investors.
