If you're smart about it, hosting for the holidays doesn't have to be too hectic. Most of the time though, it's a whole lot of hectic. Not only are you balancing multiple hats at once—entertainer, chef, and perhaps a guest wrangler if anyone strays—but you're also managing the kitchen logistics, setting timers, washing dishes as you go, shuffling things around in the oven, and so much more. It's tempting to want to go the extra mile and cook everything yourself, but beloved actor and celebrity home cook Stanley Tucci insists that one item might be better store-bought rather than homemade.

Stanley Tucci's Store-Bought Holiday Dish

Earlier in October, I had the privilege of speaking with the actor on all things food. He told me about his genius 5-ingredient sandwich and spoke about his recent collaboration with S.Pellegrino, appropriately showcasing a beautiful holiday cheese “cake” that I still dream of even now.

It's no secret that Tucci loves to cook. His Instagram page is brimming with videos and photos of his culinary endeavors. From soup to pasta (lots of pasta), he’s showcased his love for Italian cuisine in each of the dishes he makes.

When speaking about the holidays, I had one pressing question for him: Is there anything that he likes to buy from the store rather than make himself? And his answer surprised me.

“It has to be those little sausages wrapped in bacon,” Tucci told me. “You’re not going to make them yourself, a crazy person does that.” He also explained that he likes to put out some fresh fruit and nuts for guests to snack on while they wait for the main course.

Sure, bacon-wrapped sausages are one of the easier dishes to make, but when you have to cook multiple things at once, who has time to pop them in the oven? Especially during the holidays. So, take a page from Tucci's book and consider placing one or two store-bought items on your dinner table spread. It's not only time-saving but also directs your attention to some of the more pressing, showstopping dishes on your holiday menu.
