The One Show's Alex Jones pranked her co-host Jermaine Jenas live on air during yesterday's show (July 13).

Alex orchestrated the prank when she asked Jermaine to introduce debut novelist (and BBC weather presenter) Carol Kirkwood onto the show.

"Carol Kirkwood is about to join us and I think you should introduce her," she smiled, "but before we do that, let's remind ourselves of what happened the last time Carol's name came up in conversation..."

An old clip then aired of Jermaine saying he had "no idea" who Carol was, before we returned to the studio.

"You know what, thank you so much for this!" he responded with a laugh. "I really appreciate it, Al.

"It was one of them though; the minute I saw her face, I went, 'What am I doing? Of course I know who Carol Kirkwood is!' But I just really appreciate you bringing it back up the way you have done so beautifully."

"We only do it 'cause you and Carol can take it!" Alex replied.

Jermaine then gladly welcomed Carol, who was appearing on the show to talk about her new book Under a Greek Moon.

"Thank you John," she casually quipped as Jermaine burst into laughter again, following up with: "It had to be done!"

The One Show airs on weekdays on BBC One. Carol Kirkwood's novel Under a Greek Moon is out now.
