Some very sad news has emerged from the royal family's camp today, as it's reported that one of the Queen's beloved pet dogs has passed away. As famed for her love of corgis as she is for her penchant for horses, an insider said that Her Majesty has now been left with one remaining canine, after Vulcan, a dachshund-corgi cross (known as a dorgi), has died aged thirteen. The Queen's surviving pooch is thought to be named Candy.

According to the Daily Mail, the royal source said, "Her Majesty adores her dogs and it's always a blow [to lose one], particularly now [in the run up to Christmas]." The Queen last lost an animal friend in 2018, when her corgi Willow was put down after a cancer diagnosis.

The Queen is known for keeping her pets close to her and even for allowing them to be present in the room during some of her formal engagements (check out the below picture of her meeting the then-Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key, at Windsor Castle back in 2015). How cute it that? Her animal companions are clearly a big part of the family.

HRH's love of furry friends is also share by her grandsons too, Prince William and Prince Harry, both of whom are known dog lovers. The former very sadly also suffered a recent pet loss, when his and Kate Middleton's dog Lupo died in November. The Cambridge's shared their heartbreaking news in a candid Instagram post, featuring a very proud looking photograph of Lupo. The couple expressed how much they would miss the nine-year-old canine.

"Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away. He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much," they wrote in the caption.

One of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's pooches was spotted recently in a video shot in the Sussex's back garden, over in Montecito. The mischievous black Labrador, Pula, decided it would be fun to gatecrash the Duchess mid-interview with esteemed feminist writer, Gloria Steinem, and emerged from the bushes to have a casual sniff around.

Our thoughts are with the Queen at this sad time, as well as the Cambridge family – it's true when they say pets really are like a member of the family.
