Olivia Colman has a secret cameo in Netflix's new comedy show, Heartstopper.
Based on a graphic novel series of the same name, Heartstopper is an LGBT coming-of-age romance that stars Joe Locke and Kit Connor as two teenage boys who fall in love.
But Colman's appearance in the show was a closely guarded secret and only revealed to audiences as they were watching the series on Netflix.
Alice Oseman, who wrote the graphic novel and developed the series, spoke to Metro about managing to bag the Oscar winner for the role. She said: “I literally thought this was the stupidest idea ever. I thought there was no way she would want to be part of this or anyone famous would want to be part of this. I was proven wrong!”
Producer Patrick Walters also said: "It was always the dream. I was talking to Alice and suggested Olivia Colman to play Nick’s mum and it felt like a total fantasy. So we only sent the part to her and she said yes!"
Colman's scene in the show occurs in the final episode and took the actor two days to film.

Walters also discussed watching Colman rehearse and film the scene: "In their scene when he’s coming out to her in the rehearsal she was just looking at Kit and his performance was so moving she just burst into tears and forgot her lines. It was a kind of amazing dream."
He added: "In being there with her on those days, she seemed to really respond to Kit and what he was doing in those scenes and to feel like the open communication between a mother and a son of that age, she said that was really lovely and nice to play."
Colman won an Oscar for her role as Queen Anne in The Favourite and has been nominated twice more for her performances in The Father and The Lost Daughter.
She is also known for her TV appearances in The Crown, Peep Show and Fleabag.
