Britney Spears has announced her engagement to Sam Asghari and appears to have received some words of advice from an unexpected fan, actor Octavia Spencer.

On Sunday the singer took to Instagram to reveal the news that her longtime boyfriend had popped the question following their five-year courtship.

‘I can't f-cking believe it, [sic]’ the mother-of-two captioned a series of videos on Instagram of her round-cut engagement ring, made with a four-carat diamond by Forever Diamonds NY, according to ENews!.

Several celebrities took to the comments section of the post to share their well wishes.

‘Congratulations love!! [sic] So happy for you! Welcome to the club!’ commented Paris Hilton.

‘CONGRATULATIONS, [sic]’ added RuPaul's Drag Race judge Michelle Visage.

However, it was a note spotted by the Instagram account @commentsbycelebs which caught our attention.

Two hours after Spears shared her post Oscar winner Spencer commented, ‘Make him sign a prenup’, which the Instagram account described as ‘sage advice’.

At this stage we’re unable to confirm the validity of the screenshot, but Spencer’s comment doesn’t seem to appear on Spears’ post.

‘Octavia said it but we were all thinking it,’ one user commented on the Instagram account’s post.

‘Women looking out for women,’ another added, while another wrote: ‘Listen to your Auntie Octavia, Britney.’

Several Twitter users then caught wind of Spencer’s comment and couldn’t help but share their admiration for the 51-year-old’s advice.

While some supported Spencer's advice, others found it unsolicited and unnecessary on such a public platform.

'While Octavia is not wrong, it’s kinda rude to say in response to someone’s engagement announcement. Wait a couple days and send her a dm but this is totally not necessary, [sic]' one user commented on the @commentsbycelebs post.

'Here we go again, telling her what to do, what not to do. Let them make their own decisions. If something may go wrong, at least it was HER decision and she will have to learn through her mistakes like the rest of us. SHES HUMAN, [sic]' another added.

It’d be fair to assume Spencer’s comment is in reference to Spears’ ongoing legal battle to put an end to her 13-year conservatorship, which controls her personal, medical and financial decisions.

During a hearing in July Spears claimed that the conservatorship has prevented her from marrying Asghari – who she met in 2016 - and having more children.

Last week, the 39-year-old’s father Jamie Spears filed papers in a Los Angeles court to end his daughter's conservatorship after she has tried to remove him from the position twice in the last two years.

Spears recently described her father’s decisions as ‘cruelty’, accused him of ‘conservator abuse’ and likened his control over her life and career to ‘sex trafficking’.

In response to his daughter’s claims during the hearing, Spears released a statement via his lawyer, Vivian Thoreen, which read: ‘Mr. Spears loves his daughter and misses her very much.’ Regarding his daughter's accusations, he also said per the Guardian: 'Many of her characterisations or memories are just incorrect.'

The singer’s father stepped down from his role as conservator in 2019 but has continued to control her business arrangements.

Spears’ marriage to Asghari will be her third. The singer married dancer Kevin Federline, with whom she has two children, in 2004. The pair divorced in 2007. Prior to her marriage to Federline Spears wed her childhood friend Jason Alexander in Las Vegas in 2004, but the marriage was annulled soon after.

According to ENews! Asghari had the word ‘Lioness’ engraved inside the band, which is his nickname for his wife-to-be.
