The new year is finally here, which means millions of us have already made resolutions and set some goals, hoping to spark a positive change in 2022.
With that in mind, craft experts from Hobbycraft predict a huge vision board trend in January as Brits relax and reflect on their intentions for the year ahead. In the first week of January last year, searches for "vision boards" on google trends hit an all-time peak and searches on Hobbycraft.co.uk in January 2021 increased by 37% vs the same period in 2020.
But what is a vision board? Put simply, it's a visual representation of your goals and resolutions. So, whether you're planning to cook more or to take up a new hobby in 2022, it can be a helpful tool to help you a long the way.
And there are many benefits to vision boarding too – from embracing your creativity, providing motivation, enhancing productivity, boosting chances of success and making you happier.
Aisha Green, content and papercraft marketing manager at Hobbycraft shared her top on how how you can achieve the perfect vision board with some step-by-step instructions and top tips.
STEP 1: Define your goals for 2022
Begin by taking a few minutes to journal and write down some ideas
Make sure you are in a relaxing environment and spend five to 10 minutes writing down things that you would like to achieve in 2022
These can be fun, serious or a mix of both – the goal is to think about what you would like your life to look like one year from now
Write it all down!
STEP 2: Collect materials and inspiration that make you small
After you’ve decided your goals, it’s time for the fun part - collecting all the materials and inspiration for your vision board!
Ensure to have a mix of magazines and craft supplies on hand so that you can find photos and words that stand out and match your goals.
Aside from goals, cut out and gather photos that capture every area of your life, such as your relationships, family, hobbies, home, dream vacation and even your style
STEP 3: Decide on your vision board layout
Once you have the materials, start putting them on your vision board
When it comes to planning your layout, you can set all your photos on the board before putting them in place or attach photos as you go
Cork boards are great as you can easily change your display whenever you want
Another way of displaying your 2022 vision is by using poster card and filling in details with washi tape or your own doodles
STEP 4: Find the right place for your vision board to live
After you’re finished putting everything on the board, put it in an iconic place that you will see each day!
The more likely you are to see your vision board and all your dreams, the more likely you are to remember them and work toward them each day
Some tools to help you along the way
The more creative your board is, the better. We would encourage you to use as many materials as possible whether it's glitter, postcards or family photos.
Here's a list of some of our favourite craft supplies, if you need a bit of inspiration.
Ask yourself what do you want to achieve in 2022?
Add quotes that inspire you and make one word or phrase more predominant than others
Place the largest images first, then fill in open spaces with smaller ones to create visual balance and design interest with your board
Don’t be afraid to mix and match media types – glitter pens, gems, feathers, and stickers are all welcome!
