A famous gold sculpture of a nude Kate Moss will go up for auction at Sotheby's next month.

Marc Quinn's gold-plated Sphinx is expected to reach £90,000 when it goes under the hammer on 16 February, reports the Guardian. The statue will be sold as part of the Erotic: Passion and Desire sale.

The artist created the sculpture in 2006, later producing a full-size version in pure gold. He has described the statue as "the rebirth of Venus" and her yoga position inspired by an Indian sculpture of Shiva.

"She is the reflection of ourselves, a knotted Venus for our age, a mirror, a mystery, a sphinx," Quinn said of the piece in 2006.
