The National Television Awards 2021 took place last night (9 September) and there were some impressive wins across many of the nation's favourite shows. The awards aired on ITV and were hosted by comedian Joel Dommett.

Nominations for the National Television Awards were announced last month and the voting was put to the public.

Highlights included Ant and Dec winning the Best Presenter Category for the 20th year, Coronation Street's Jude Riodan was the youngest Best Newcomer winner for his role as Sam Blakeman on the soap, while Strictly, GBBO and This Morning also scooped up awards.

Line of Duty was up for an award in the NTA’s 2021 Returning Drama category, plus three nominations on the Drama Performance list, making it the most nominated show of the year and earned it the Special Recognition Award.

Vicky McClure, Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar were all nominated for their roles as Kate Fleming, Steve Arnott and Ted Hastings respectively.

Also up for the top prize in this category was Olly Alexander (also known as singer Years and Years) for his role as Ritchie Tozer in Russell T Davies’ It’s a Sin, and David Tennant for his performance as serial killer Dennis Nilsen, in Des.

Both It’s a Sin and Des were also nominated in the New Drama category, up against Bridgerton and Normal People.

Favourite shows Great British Bake Off and the Great British Sewing Bee competed against each other for the NTA’s 2021 Challenge Show category award, while Strictly Come Dancing will be battling The Masked Singer for the Talent Show title.

Both This Morning and Loose Women were named in the Daytime category while shows including Ricky Gervais' After Life and Friday Night Dinner, which starred the late Paul Ritter, received mentions in the Comedy list.

The special Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award category includes I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway. The presenting duo were also up for a joint award in the TV presenter category alongside This Morning's Holly Willoughby and Alison Hammond.

It was a close year, with tough competition in many categories. This was especially as multiple shows were up for more than one award, with Line of Duty leading the way with four nominations.
