If you loved the red Preen dress the Duchess of Cambridge wore for an evening engagement in Canada, then you were not alone. The frock sold out online as soon as Kate was spotted in it and then promptly sold out in black when she wore in it that colour too.

Although the dress was restocked, it has since sold out again, but there's no need to fret as we may have some good news for you.

The designers behind the label have created a very similar dress for their high-street collection, Studio by Preen at Debenhams for a fraction of the price. The brand's red skater dress, which features a similar scoop neckline and the same full-skirted feel, is retailing for just £69, in contrast to the mainline frock which sat at the £990 price tag.

"The inspiration came from the Bloomsbury Set and that opulent world of cocktails and dinner parties," co-founder of the Preen, Thea Bregazzi told us at the time. "We're so thrilled, she looks so elegant. This dress is designed to be both classic yet modern, perfect for the Duchess."

While the fabric is of course not going to be of as high a quality as the original, the piece certainly has a similar feel to the Duchess' – and will make for an excellent day-to-night investment dress.

However, if you have your heart set on the designer version, you can still pick up the dress in blue here or can snap it up on Lyst here.
