Norway Has Built World's Greenest Furniture Factory

The cleanest, greenest furniture factory in the world has been built in Norway. The furniture manufacturer Vestre and architects Bjarke ingles Group (BIG) have revealed THE PLUS a new furniture factory, experience centre, and 300-acre public park. The colourful manufacturing village is dedicated to the carbon-neutral fabrication of urban furniture and it is hoped it will set the blueprint for the factories of the future. Constructed in just 18 months, the building is made of local mass timber, low-carbon concrete, and recycled steel. Running on local hydropower, THE PLUS is surrounded by a huge public forest park in the middle of Norwegian woodland. 900 photovoltaic panels, rainwater collection systems, heat and cooling systems, green roofs, electric vehicles mean it demands 90 per cent less energy than a conventional factory.
