While fans dream of a second season, the news has hit that two special mini episodes of popular BBC show Normal People will air this Friday (26 June ) on RTÉ Does Comic Relief in Ireland, with barely even time to get excited about it!
Stars Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones and director Lenny Abrahamson are all involved, so the public can expect more of what they love from the incredibly successful show, which aired earlier this year.
Speaking of the upcoming Comic Relief evening, co-founder Richard Curtis told RTÉ Radio 1: "There's a beautiful piece called Normal Older People, which is imagining what would have happened to Marianne and Connell 40 years from now. I promise you, these are two very special bits.
"It's so much better than anything we've ever made. I mean I can't even say all about it because there's a guest star in it. But it's really, it's really beautiful.
"One of the things about Comic Relief is it just gives opportunities for things to happen that would never happen. I can't imagine any context in which they would have allowed this little sort of extra special into the world of Normal People."
For those of you who haven't yet seen Normal People, it stars Mescal as Connell and Edgar-Jones as Marianne, two young people with a complex and intriguing relationship.
This is how the BBC describes the series:
"Normal People tracks the tender but complicated relationship of Marianne and Connell from the end of their school days in a small-town west of Ireland to their undergraduate years at Trinity College.
"Honest, smart and intoxicating, Normal People sees the pair weave in and out of each other’s lives and explores just how complicated intimacy and young love can be."
The 12-part series went down incredibly well with viewers, but its rather open ending left many fans with burning questions. It seems we may be about to find some answers...
RTÉ Does Comic Relief airs this Friday (June 26) on RTÉ One from 8pm.
Normal People is available to stream on BBC iPlayer. Weekly double episodes continue to air on BBC One on Mondays at 9pm.
