Every year, Harper’s Bazaar celebrates the talent, creativity, and outstanding accomplishments of women in the worlds of fashion, sport, philanthropy, art and more. Our annual Women of the Year awards is an opportunity to highlight female achievement and their social and cultural impact. This year, we want to extend this recognition to women who may perhaps otherwise be overlooked, through the new Harper’s Bazaar Change Leader Award.

This special new addition to the Women of the Year Awards will be presented to a winner nominated by you, our readers. We are offering you the opportunity to propose a woman you know who has done something remarkable for her community in the past 18 months, whether that be in a key worker role, as a champion of others, a charity worker or simply someone who has contributed to her local community in a meaningful way during the pandemic.

The winner, along with a guest of their choice, will be invited to attend the prestigious 2021 Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards in person and will be celebrated alongside the other winners of the evening. The winner will also receive an overnight stay at a London hotel, with hair and make-up before the event included.

The Harper’s Bazaar Change Leader award has been created as a reminder of the outstanding women across the country working in a variety of fields who have been pillars of strength in the past 18 months but who rarely make the headlines. We hope this will shine a light on all these women.

To nominate an amazing woman for this accolade, please submit 300-500 words explaining your choice to changeleader@harpersbazaar.co.uk by 15th October.

More information on the nomination process and full T&Cs can be found below.

Both the entrant and the nominee must be UK residents who are currently living in the UK and are aged 18 or over. To nominate somebody for The Harper’s Bazaar Change Leader Award 2021, please submit an entry of between 300-500 words demonstrating how the individual being nominated has done something remarkable for their community in the past 18 months. Please note that this entry must be in English and any entry that does not meet the entry requirements will not be considered. This competition opens on 4.10.21 and closes at midnight on 15.10.21. Answers received after the closing date will not be considered.

The prize is the receipt of the Bazaar Change Leader Award 2021 which will be announced at the Women of the Year Awards, at Claridge’s hotel in London on 2.11.21. The winning nominee must be available to attend the award (with an invitation for a plus one) where hair, make-up, an overnight stay in a London hotel and reasonable travel expenses (from mainland GB) to and from the event will be arranged for the winner. The winner will be selected by the Bazaar team based on the following judging criteria:

  • Both entrants and their nominees must be UK residents and over the age of 18.

  • Submissions must abide by the word count and be written in English.

  • The submission should demonstrate how the individual being nominated has done something remarkable for their community in the past 18 months.

  • The nominee can be either someone whose job/volunteer role naturally includes public service – and therefore was called upon to go above and beyond during the pandemic- or someone who rose to the occasion of their own volition and who worked at/started something new to help people in the past 18 months.

  • The nominee should not previously have received any major awards or national recognition for this.

Three short-listed finalists will be invited for interview and the entrant must notify the nominee that you will be contacting them. If your entry is short-listed, we will be in touch with you using the email address you used to submit your entry within one week of the closing date requesting contact details for your nominee in order for us to interview them. Once we've interviewed the short-list, a winner will be decided. Unfortunately, due to the number of submissions we receive it will only be possible to reply to you if your nomination has been short-listed, but please be assured we read and consider every qualifying nomination. If criteria isn’t met, then Harper’s Bazaar reserves the right to not give out this award
