'No more hand cramps': This Kindle add-on, down to $15, makes reading in bed easy
These clever silicone straps make your e-reader a cinch to hold — and keep you from dropping it on your face as you drift off.
If you're anything like me, your only chance of getting some quality reading time is at night, in bed, when the day's over. After I wrap up the workday, run errands and eat dinner with my family, all I want to do is unwind, grab my Kindle, pull the duvet up to my chin and get my read on.
Here's the thing, though — reading in bed sounds great, but it's almost impossible to find the right position where my e-reader doesn't fall flat on my face. So, when I discovered the Strapcicle, I felt like I had seen the light, and it's been smooth reading ever since. Best of all, a two-pack is on sale for $15 right now at Amazon.
Each pack comes with two straps, so you can double up or use just one — whatever you find comfortable. Choose from 13 colors ranging from black to pine (shown) to candy pink.
Why is this a good deal? 💰
If you love your Kindle just as much as your phone (I can't be the only one), then you really want to get cozy during those nighttime "lying flat on the bed" reads. This convenient accessory is on sale in select colors for the lowest it's ever been, $15 — plus, who can put a price on a relaxing way to wind down before nodding off?
Why do I need this? 🤔
Whether you just bought the new entry-level Kindle, the even newer Kindle Colorsoft or you're content with the model you currently have, you know that, while the e-reader makes reading and book-collecting much more efficient, it's not the easiest to hold for long periods. It's pretty much the same as holding a tablet for hours on end. Your hand gets fatigued and your fingers get tired of gripping the edges.
That's where the Strapcicle comes in. All you have to do is secure the ends to the corners of your Kindle and slide your hand through the slot. The grip between the soft-touch silicone strap and your Kindle holds everything in place, so you don't have to do anything but hold your hand upright.
Before investing in this gem, I dropped my Kindle on my face more than I'd like to admit — but no more. Also, my hands don't cramp up since all I have to do is tap the corner of the screen when it's time to turn the page.
What reviewers say 💬
Hundreds of Kindle owners love this underrated, affordable accessory, saying it makes reading on the go or in unorthodox a breeze. As one buyer raves, "no more hand cramps."
Pros 👍
"These little straps are great!" a fan wrote. "They make it so much easier to hold my Kindle in the car pickup line, in bed (no more dropping on my face), or just on the couch."
Cases not for you? This is a reader-approved alternative: "I've had numerous Kindles and a variety of cases, PopSockets, etc. I gave up cases and covers long ago, but love using PopSockets to grip the Kindle, especially while lying in bed," another shopper said. "My newest Kindle has cordless charging, so a PopSocket was not an option. I found this Strapsicle and liked that I could easily remove it for charging, but it was still substantive and easy to use."
"You get two straps in a pack, so you can put both straps on to 'criss-cross' or just use one strap for your primary hand — the versatility is great!" a five-star reviewer added. "The straps hold well and don't even slide off when I'm taking my Kindle in and out of my bag."
Cons 👎
Since the straps are made of silicone, they're super durable, but not completely flat — a detail that one shopper doesn't love: "I just wish that it wouldn't budge out in the corners when you have your hand in there," the reviewer said. "Other than that, I really enjoy it."
One last shopper said it comes with "no screen protector like with my other case" — just the straps. The same reviewer noted, though, that "these are not deal-breakers."
If you travel often, the Strapsicle adds a layer of security, making it harder for passers-by to knock your e-reader out of your hands.
