Nine maternity ward nurses to give birth within weeks of each other

Nine nurses working in the maternity unit at a US hospital are due to give birth within weeks of each other.

The nine women who all work in the labour and delivery unit of the largest hospital in Maine, north-east America, are all expecting babies in the next few months.

Maine Medical Center announced the news with a Facebook post on Monday and photos showing the nurses proudly displaying their bumps.

In one of the photos, the women are pictured holding up cards revealing their due dates which run from April to July.

In an interview with Maine television station WGME-TV, nurse Amanda Spear said: “It's really nice coming to work and seeing other people who are just as pregnant and watching their bellies pop and just talking about these experiences that we are going through together.”

Colleague and fellow expectant mother Erin Grenier told the station: “After each one of us started to say, 'We're pregnant,' I think it was a happier announcement each time, and we're all there for each other.

“There's been times where we've been the patient. So it's been great to have each other either being our nurse or just being there for us, sending us a message, checking in on us making sure everything is okay,”' added Ms Grenier.

The nurses plan to help with each other's deliveries and the hospital has confirmed that it’s prepared to cover the shifts when all nine nurses are on maternity leave.
