Nigella Lawson is here to inspire and indulge us with her mouth-watering salted cameral sauce recipe.
The celebrity cook posted the sauce as part of her Recipe of the Day franchise on Instagram and it looks incredible. Once made, she recommends pouring it generously over ice cream, or cheesecake, or anything else that you so desire.
"My love for salted caramel never wanes and, joy of joys, #RecipeOfTheDay is this very simple Salted Caramel Sauce. Pour warm over ice cream, cold over cheesecake, or add to anything else that takes your fancy..." Nigella captioned the photo of her sauce.
Fans were delighted by Nigella's stunning recipe, with some suggesting adding a spoonful to your morning coffee as a treat, while others recommended eating it straight from the bowl with a spoon.
"I can drink salted caramel from a glass!!! Maybe not drink, but have it with a spoon," one wrote.
"This just tastes of magic. I could eat it by the spoonful!" another added.
Melt butter, sugars and syrup in a small heavy-based pan and let simmer for 3 minutes, swirling every now and again.
Add cream and half a teaspoon of fleur de sel salt (not table salt!) and swirl again, give a stir with a wooden spoon and taste – go cautiously so that you don’t burn your tongue – to see if you want more salt before letting it cook for another minute on the stove, then pour into a jug for serving.
Now you’ve got your sauce, you’re ready to take your next steps: eating it. Her suggestions are as follows: In the first instance, and for ease, just dribble it over vanilla ice cream. But next up, consider adding a warm brownie or drizzle over chocolate fondant puddings or chocolate cake. It also tastes great poured over clotted cream and Christmas pudding. But it is not just this realm that welcomes the sauce: it makes a divine accompaniment to apple crumble, apple cake or simple baked apple.
Delicious! We'll be making this ASAP.
