Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson celebrated her birthday this week but instead of a traditional birthday cake, the star was treated to a delicious double-decker French dessert.

Nigella regularly gives fans an insight into the dishes she makes at home, but for her birthday the star celebrated with her "absolute favourite" sweet treat created by private events chef Helio Fenerich.

Nigella took to Instagram to thank fans for their birthday wishes and share a picture of her non-traditional birthday treat, a double-decker Paris-Brest.

"Thank you all for your birthday wishes today. You warm my heart," Nigella wrote.

She continued: "And thank you @helioskitchen for sending over this gorgeous *double-decker* Paris-Brest, my absolute favourite. I鈥檓 deeply grateful, especially today 馃挆"

Nigella's fans took to the comment section of her post to wish her well and comment on her birthday dessert.

"That looks so delicious.@helioskitchen is a wonder! 鉂わ笍," one fan wrote, while another added: "馃槏 My favourite too!!!"

A Paris鈥揃rest is a sweet French treat, made of choux pastry and a praline flavoured cream. It was created in 1910 to commemorate the Paris-Brest-Paris bicycle race and has since become a hugely popular dessert in France.
