Nicole Kidman had the best response to an interviewer who asked a "sexist" question about her marriage to Tom Cruise during a promotional interview for Nicole's upcoming film, Being The Ricardos.

In an interview with The Guardian, Nicole discussed Lucille Ball‘s relationship with Desi Arnaz, which forms part of the subject matter of her latest film. She said, "It’s about a creative and romantic relationship that doesn’t work out. But from it come some extraordinary things. And I love that. I love that it’s not a happy ending."

When the interviewer asked "with exquisite care" if this was her way of "talking about Tom Cruise?" Nicole replied, "Oh, my God, no, no. Absolutely not. No. I mean, that’s, honestly, so long ago that that isn’t in this equation. So no."

The interviewer noted that Nicole was "angry," as she continued, “And I would ask not to be pigeonholed that way, either. It feels to me almost sexist, because I’m not sure anyone would say that to a man. And at some point, you go, ‘Give me my life. In its own right.’”

Nicole was married to Tom Cruise for 11 years, from 1990 until 2001. They share two adopted children: Isabella (29) and Connor (26).

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar earlier this year, Nicole reflected on the media's enduring interest in her relationship with Tom. When asked whether or not she found it annoying that the press still focused on their marriage and split, Nicole replied, "I was young. I think I offered it up?"

Nicole continued, "Maybe I’ve gotten a bit more trepidatious, but I’m always trying to be as open as possible. I just prefer to live in the world that way… I’m wary at times, and I’ve been hurt, but at the same time I much prefer a warm approach rather than a prickly shut- down approach."

She also recalled that when she met Keith Urban, her husband, he asked her, "How’s your heart?" And she responded, "Open."

Nicole and Keith were married in 2006. They share two daughters.
