Nicole Kidman just discussed whether there will be a Big Little Lies season 3
Big Little Lies had us hooked when it first appeared on our screens all the way back in 2017. Over seasons 1 and 2, we followed the women of Monterey through some seriously *gripping* drama and, naturally, viewers are after more.
It's been over two years since season 2 dropped in June 2019, but will a season 3 finally be happening? Here's everything we know so far.
What have the cast said about Big Little Lies season 3?
Unfortunately, a third series hasn't been confirmed by streamer HBO. However, it seems like some Big Little Lies cast members would certainly be keen to return to the show if a season 3 were to go ahead.
Series lead Nicole Kidman discussed a potential series 3 with SiriusXM radio host Andy Cohen on 7 December, and she definitely seems as though she'd be up for it. Appearing on the Radio Andy show, Nicole was asked, "If you could revisit something that you've done, make a sequel of something or revisit a character that you've already played, is there one that you think ... there's more story to be told?"
Nicole was quick to bring up the HBO series, answering, "I think we'd all love to do a Big Little Lies season 3, you know?"
However, she added that nothing has been confirmed, replying "I don't know" when asked whether there might be a third series.
She explained, "I know that we would, all, we all are very, very good friends and the idea of working together again. I mean, literally Laura [Dern] just texted me. And I was meant to see Reese [Witherspoon] and Laura last night, but...I was working."
Nicole went on to say that sadly a season 3 "is not on the cards" but that she would still "like to do it".
She continued, "The idea of being together and, you know, point in your life where you go, ‘It's nice to be around the people I like being around and working with the people I like working around, let alone on a ... hit show like that. So, you know, but that is not, it's not on the cards, but yeah, we would like to do it."

Is there a Big Little Lies season 3 release date?
As Big Little Lies season 3 sadly hasn't been confirmed yet, there's also no word on a potential release date. Season 1 was originally released in February 2017, while season 2 came out around 16 months later in June 2019.
As we're already at the end of 2021, any gap between season 2 and a potential season 3 would be bigger than we've previously seen.
Big Little Lies season 3 cast: Who might star?
Nicole Kidman previously sounded hopeful about the prospect of a potential season 3, and she hinted that other leading cast members would be up for it too.
She told Marie Claire Australia in October 2020, "Reese [Witherspoon] and I talk or text once a week. She’s just moved back to Nashville and we’re really close. We all just want to work together again. I texted Zoë [Kravitz] and Laura [Dern] and they’re in. [Writers] David [E. Kelley] and Liane [Moriarty] have a really good idea for it. Watch this space!"
Other cast members previously included Shailene Woodley, Meryl Streep and Alexander Skarsgård, so here's hoping we'll see them all come together again soon.
