Nicola Coughlan has responded to podcast host Amanda Richards on Twitter after she called her "The fat girl from Bridgerton" and criticised the outfit she wore for this year's Golden Globes.

The Golden Globes took place on Sunday evening, with celebrities around the world appearing via video at the historic ceremony. Of course, Derry Girls and Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan was in attendance (from home), wearing a yellow tulle Molly Goddard dress and a black cardigan along with bold pink eyeshadow for the event.

In response to her outfit Amanda Richards, host of The Big Calf Podcast, tweeted about Nicola's look during the ceremony, saying, "The fat girl from Bridgerton is wearing a black cardigan at the Golden Globes, bc no matter how hot and stylish you are, if you're a fat girl there will always be a black cardigan you think about wearing, then decide against, but ultimately wear bc you feel like you have to."

Just a few hours later, Nicola herself responded to Richards' tweet, saying, "I thought the cardigan looked ace, Molly Goddard used them on her runway with the dresses that’s where the idea came from, also I have a name."

Richards also shared a screengrab of her original tweet on Instagram, this time naming Nicola but making the point that "being a fat girl who's into fashion is a cursed existence."

While Richards didn't reply to Nicola's tweet directly she responded to another commenter who defended Nicola's style, saying "Agree, her style is killer. and it was a choice! She replied and said so, and correctly called me out for not using her name. I definitely projected my own feelings about the requisite fat girl cover up cardigan onto that look."

Nicola meanwhile shared an image of the look to her grid and I think we can all agree she looks stunning.
