Nicola Coughlan can't stop wearing this affordable jewellery brand
The last year has seen Nicola Coughlan cement herself as one of the most exciting names to watch on the red carpet. So, when she finds a brand she loves, it's time to pay attention – especially when it's a surprisingly affordable jewellery label that has also been worn by the likes of Hailey Bieber, Kate Hudson and Ashley Graham.
The label in question is the London-based independent jewellery brand YSSO, which is known for its references to ancient mythology and its celebration of the beauty of Greece, which is where the founders hail from. Coughlan has worn a number of pieces by the brand over the past few months, and has turned to it twice on her very romantic and ethereal Bridgerton press tour.
Most recently, just last week, Coughlan wore the brand's Droplets earrings for the Toronto premiere. The oversized gold style made the perfect accompaniment to her exquisite Sara Mrad couture look, a textured purple mini dress with a giant train.
The actress also chose YSSO's Chain Link earrings in silver with a turquoise suit for an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, and the Clos earrings for Emilia Wickstead's fashion show during London Fashion Week in February. Coughlan has been pictured in a number of other pieces by the brand too, including the Filo earrings and the Papyros ring, the latter of which was designed to look like a scroll, so Coughlan wore it to symbolise the Whistledown letters from Bridgerton.
"I think we tapped into the need to express personality and uniqueness through jewellery, and to tell stories," Alexia Karides – who co-founded the brand alongside her mother, Stalo – tells us about the brand's success, which has seen a number of celebrities choose specific pieces for their red-carpet appearances that nod to method dressing, including Hailey Bailey who wore the Sea Urchin earrings when she was promoting the Little Mermaid.
But, it's not just about the red carpet – the likes of Hailey Bieber, Ashley Graham and Kate Hudson have all chosen pieces to accessorise their day-to-day looks too. While there is definitely a uniqueness to a YSSO design, these often gold chunky styles certainly tap into the mood of the moment – and sometimes, a pair is all you need to look put-together.
"We think that a great pair of earrings can take you a long way," Karides says. "Even when you get out of bed and leave the house in a rush, and you put a pair of earrings on – you immediately look polished and styled."
