Exactly two weeks after it was reported Nicki Minaj had given birth to her first child with husband Kenneth Petty, the new mum has confirmed the very lovely news.
While multiple outlets revealed Nicki had welcomed her baby in Los Angeles on September 30th, she hadn't publicly addressed the birth until now. Writing on Instagram on Thursday, the 37-year-old revealed she's now mum to a baby boy while thanking a bunch of her famous friends for sending baby gifts following the birth.
Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Riccardo Tisci, Winnie Harlow and Karol G all got a special shout out in the sweet post.
Thank you to Queen B, Kim & Ye, Riccardo Tisci, Winnie, Karol & everyone who sent well wishes during this time. It meant the world to me. I am so grateful & in love with my son. Madly in love. My favourite liddo boy in the whole wide world. 🎁🎈
Nicki stunned fans back in July when she announced she was expecting. Sharing pictures from her maternity shoot, Nicki posed in an embellished floral bikini as she clutched her growing bump. One photo was simply captioned "preggers", while alongside a second snap she wrote, "Love. Marriage. Baby carriage. Overflowing with excitement & gratitude. Thank you all for the well wishes. 💛"
Nicki and Kenneth, who have known each other since their teens, made their relationship Instagram official in December 2018 before they went on to tie the knot last October. A month before they exchanged their vows, Nicki shocked fans when she announced she was quitting the music industry.
"I’ve decided to retire & have my family," she tweeted. "I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, ❌ in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. ✅ Love you for LIFE 😘♥️🦄."
After fans thought that meant she wouldn't be making music ever again, she added, "I'm still right here. Still madly in love with you guys and you know that. In hindsight, this should've been a Queen Radio discussion and it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything. The tweet was abrupt and insensitive, I apologise babe."
Meanwhile, in a 2014 interview with Complex, Nicki said she's always dreamed of becoming a mum. "[My biggest fear] is that I’ll become so consumed with work that I’ll forget to live my personal life to the fullest," the 37-year-old explained.
"If I’m done with my fifth album and I don’t have a child by then, no matter how much money I have, I would be disappointed, as a woman, because I feel like I was put here to be a mother."
Congratulations, Nicki and Kenneth!
