Nicki Minaj is officially Vogue’s December 2023 cover star. While the feature includes several jaw-dropping images, which were captured by Norman Jean Roy, the rapper also provided some insight on everything from her career to motherhood in an accompanying feature story.
The 40-year-old rapper and mom of one admitted that while she would “pay” to look like she did at the age of 25, she feels confident in her skin these days. At the same time, she encouraged her many fans to embrace themselves just as they are, too.
“... today I can say that I’m at peace with who I am and how I look,” she told the outlet. “I have to say this as a Black woman, though. I’ve made certain choices for my son, to not give him sweets and candy and juices, because of illnesses like diabetes that run in our community. I’m not in favor of body positivity if it means unhealthy bodies. That’s bull. It’s not believable, so let’s stop pretending. Recently I had to get a breast reduction, and actually I love it. I used to want a bigger butt, and now I look back and realize how silly that was. So—love your curves, and love your non-curves. There’s nothing wrong with any of it.”
When the cover hit the internet on Nov. 9, Minaj shared her appreciation regarding the incredible feature on Instagram. She shouted out the publication’s longtime editor in chief, Anna Wintour, in particular.
“Anna, thank you. I can’t really find the words to sum up all these emotions right now, but gratitude is number 1 on the list,” Minaj wrote. “Thank you for making one of my WILDEST dreams come true. A beautiful & surreal experience from start to finish.”
