Watch: Nick Knowles pays tribute to a father who was the victim of a hooligan attack
Nick Knowles has paid an emotional tribute following the death of a dad who appeared on DIY SOS after being attacked by football hooligans.
Simon Dobbin – who was left brain-damaged after the vicious attack after a match in Southend, Essex, in 2015 – died this week.
He had appeared on the BBC renovation series last year, where Knowles and the rest of the team transformed his home to better suit his needs.
“Very sad news,” the presenter wrote on Twitter.
“His family put everything aside to care for him. Our sympathies are with them.”

Cambridge United supporter Dobbin, 48, was attacked after his team played Southend United in March 2015. He was left with permanent brain damage and was unable to walk or talk.
In 2017, 12 men were jailed over the attack.
It is with a heavy heart that Cambridge United can confirm we have received the devastating news that Simon Dobbin sadly passed away at home this morning.
