Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz legend Nick Frost has posted a picture of himself in hospital - alongside a health update to fans.

The actor, 52, famous for his onscreen partnership with friend Simon Pegg, was shown in a bed wearing a medical gown before having an operation, saying: "Here we go! Just know that I loved you."

He later emerged - still in hospital - and explained he underwent surgery on his knee to eliminate the arthritis he's suffered for years.

The actor wrote: "I’m fine! I’m awake! I have a new knee." Nick added: "I’m in agony but I’m so happy. I’ve suffered with arthritis for years and now that is gone!!! Can’t wait to start my recovery! Send kisses. (and Morphine!)"

Fans and well-wishers replied with countless references to his movies, with one writing :"Throw the man a cornetto! He’s been through it" in reference to the repeated mentions of ice-cream in his movies with Pegg.

Nick appeared in the so-called Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy with Simon - Shaun of the Dead in 2004, Hot Fuzz in 2007 and The World's End in 2013. They also co-wrote and made the alien movie Paul together.

The pair rose to fame in Channel 4's Spaced in the late 90s, where he played Simon's character Tim's army-obsessed friend Mike.
