Niall Horan is getting real about the reality of being in one of the world's biggest boy bands. The band shot to fame after coming third in The X Factor in 2010. With five albums, seven BRIT awards and a record amount of music sales, they're one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.

But, behind closed doors, Niall admits he often struggled with fame and privacy. Speaking to Dermot O'Leary on his People, Just People podcast, Dermot asked if Niall ever felt "like a prisoner" being in the band.

"A couple of times, yeah, because we were 17, 18, 19 for the first few years, and I struggled with it," Niall responded. "I really struggled with the idea of, why won't you just let us out? We just want to go for a walk, you know?

"But, you can't get inside the brain of a fan," he recalled. "Now I completely get it, but at the time, you're like, you're our age! Just let us out! We just want to walk down the street. You must understand!"

Niall said they would get to travel around the world while touring, but could never leave the hotel because of the vast number of fans congregating outside. "The police had done a headcount and there were 10,000 people in the street the whole time," he said about a time the band visited Lima, Peru.

If a 1D reunion ever does happen, hopefully they get to fully enjoy it!
