Crazy stat sums up just how bad Coyotes have been this season

Hockey fans know the Arizona Coyotes have been bad this season, as evidenced by their league-worst 7-22-3 record, but you probably didn’t know it’s been this bad.

When Johan Larsson scored to give the Coyotes a 2-0 lead over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night, it marked the first time all season that the team had led by two goals.

You read that correctly. It took Arizona 32 games to establish a two-goal lead at any point of this season.

After taking the lead into the first intermission, the Coyotes squandered it quickly thereafter in the second, as Chicago scored two goals within the first six minutes of the frame. Arizona did retake the lead before the second period ended, however, which then brought up another horrifically unbelievable stat.

The 3-2 advantage through two periods was just the second time all year that the squad had led through 40 minutes of play.

Thanks to a hat-trick from Larsson, the first of his career, the Yotes were able to stay ahead and win the game 6-4.

Despite the win, Arizona still owns the worst goal differential in hockey (-54) and is allowing more goals per game (3.78) than any other team in the league. Tough times in the desert.
