Newcastle receive boost in pursuit of £60m Chelsea star as Howe prepares for Champions League football
Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic is reportedly keen to join a Champions League club this summer, amid links to Newcastle United.
It’s no secret that Eddie Howe is looking to bring in some ‘elite’ players ahead of next season. Now, he is considering a move for the Blues star.
West Ham have also registered an interest in Pulisic, so there is certainly no shortage of interest in his signature.
As previously noted by TEAMtalk, as many as 15 players could be axed by Chelsea this summer as Todd Boehly looks to bring the club in line with Financial Fair Play regulations.
Pulisic is one of the players tipped to leave the London side. As a result, several European clubs have made enquiries regarding the United States international.
As mentioned, Newcastle are one of the teams considering a move for Pulisic. Indeed, Howe is aiming to build a squad fit to compete in the Champions League.
With that in mind, we could see a number of exciting additions for the Magpies this summer. Now, Pulisic has given them a significant boost in their pursuit of him.

Pulisic wants to play in the Champions League
According to journalist Paul Brown, Pulisic wants to join a Champions League side this summer.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said: “I think Christian Pulisic is looking for a higher profile club than West Ham.
“I think he’d like to play in the Champions League. I think he thinks he’s good enough to play in the Champions League.
“It’s not impossible that he ends up staying at Chelsea, but I certainly think his people are looking around for the kind of club where he could be a big star, but in a team that’s challenging for honours.”
Since signing for Chelsea in January 2019, Pulisic has made 142 appearances in all competitions. In the process, he has scored 26 goals and made 21 assists.
His form has been underwhelming this season, but there is still a belief he could turn into a top player.
The American also helped his team to Champions League victory in 2021, so he has plenty of experience in the competition.
Therefore, Pulisic could be an ideal signing for Newcastle as they look to cement their place among Europe’s elite. However, despite Chelsea’s willingness to sell him, he still won’t come cheap.
Chelsea paid £60m for the American, so it’s likely they will look for a fee as close to that amount as possible.
