A number of runners commented, sending Kelly get well wishes and sharing their own experiences with long coronavirus symptoms. One runner wrote, 'if you google long term COVID I’m not the only one. I had all your symptoms but no cough-I’m a fit 45 year old woman but I honestly thought I was dying. Now I get breathless doing simple things like changing sheets or loading the dishwasher and every now again for no apparent reason I get a high temperature and can’t get out of bed for a few days then I’m back to ‘normal’ . I’m embarrassed to tell people as they must think I’m milking it now! I’m sure it won’t be like that for you so don’t let me scaremonger. I just wanted to share really.'

Dr Claire Steves and Prof Tim Spector at King’s College London have been running the COVID Symptom Study – a project which collects data from an associated app, and into which people with Covid symptoms can track how they are doing – since late March. According to analysis from 4,182 participants, one in 20 of those infected become 'covid long haulers,' with symptoms stretching past eight weeks.

Other runners shared positive stories of recovery, with one writing, 'I’m out the other side of the virus 🦠 and back to training the day my isolation finished👊🏻💪🏻 Still very much listening to my body and resting when it shouts for it. Wishing you a strong recovery too 😘💛'

Wishing Dame Kelly a speedy recovery!
