Netflix's new thriller 'The Unforgivable' stars Sandra Bullock and Viola Davis
Netflix really does know how to tick our boxes, and their upcoming film, The Unforgivable, looks like another instant hit. Not only is the drama a US adaptation of an already much-loved thriller, British miniseries Unforgiven, but it's also going to star Sandra Bullock and Viola Davis. Did somebody say dream cast?
Here's everything we know about The Unforgivable.
What's The Unforgivable about?
The film is adapted from the 2009 British series starring Suranne Jones, Siobhan Finneran and Emily Beecham. The 2021 Netflix film will follow the same story of a woman named Emily Slater following her release from prison for a crime so heinous society refuses to accept her.
Who's been cast in The Unforgivable?
Sandra Bullock will play the lead role of Ruth Slater, she will also co-produce the project. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bullock expanded on the role, suggesting it's much more of a murder mystery than its 2009 predecessor.
"My character is someone who has been incarcerated for 20 years for a pretty heinous crime [and] gets out. There are several people whose lives she affected by this crime she committed, and there's a lot of hatred and anger and bitterness and sorrow associated with her release," she explained. "She wants to find this one person, the only family she had when she went in, and you keep asking yourself, 'Why can't you let it go? This family member was traumatised by your actions — let it go! Stop harming these people all over again.'
"Finding out the background to the story of why she did what she did is sort of the whodunnit of this," she added. "It's a murder mystery within a very complex character drama."
Alongside Bullock the film stars Viola Davis (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom), John Bernthal (The Walking Dead) and Vincent D'Onofrio (Ratched).
When is The Unforgivable being released?
The Unforgivable is due to be released on Netflix on December 10.
