Netflix has confirmed the release date for its hotly-anticipated, star-studded blockbuster The Gray Man.

Directed by the Russo brothers, the action-packed film will hit selected UK cinemas on July 15 this year, with a streaming release on Netflix following a week later, on July 22.

Based on the book series of the same name by Mark Greaney, The Gray Man boasts a premium cast, including Ryan Gosling, Marvel star Chris Evans, No Time to Die's Ana de Armas and Bridgerton's very own Duke, Regé-Jean Page.

Also part of this ensemble are Game of Thrones' Jessica Henwick, Narcos' Wagner Moura and Fargo's Billy Bob Thornton, as well as Dhanush, Alfre Woodard, Julia Butters, Eme Ikwuakor, and Scott Haze.

Gosling returns to the big screen in his first film role since his turn as Neil Armstrong in 2018's First Man.

In The Gray Man, the Canadian actor plays protagonist Court Gentry, a CIA's skilled mercenary also known as Sierra Six.

Six is hunted by Lloyd Hansen (Evans), a former CIA colleague who's determined to take him out after he has uncovered some dangerous agency secrets.

Ana de Armas plays agent Dani Miranda, who helps Six in his fight for survival – while Thornton portrays Six's handler Donald Fitzroy, and Page will play a character called Carmichael.

His superhero days behind him, Evans takes on the role of a baddie in this movie.

"He's a really unique character, and this is Evans as a villain so it's a really interesting character and I think he's going to get to flex quite a bit in this role," the Russo brothers said.

Principal photography for the film took place between March and July 2021.

Scenes for The Gray Man were filmed in Prague, Czech Republic and in France at the Château de Chantilly, a 19th-century castle near Paris.

The Russos have also shared their hopes that the movie could be the first of many.

"This is being conceived as a series of films, and again, potentially branching out, we could follow other characters, but we're not gonna answer every question in the movie," Joe previously explained.

The Gray Man is released in UK cinemas on July 15, and will on Netflix from July 22.
