Fans of Roald Dahl will be happy to learn that Netflix is planning on remaking a lot of your favourite childhood films, giving them a modern day reimagining. JOY.
If your ideal Sunday involves lounging in front of the television and sticking a movie marathon on, Netflix have just the ticket. The streaming service announced earlier this week that they were turning the beloved Roald Dahl stories into series for the site, with a "wholly original take".
"Very Exciting Thing: Taika Waititi will write and direct Netflix’s first ~two~ Roald Dahl animated series events – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and a wholly original take on the Oompa-Loompas."
"These two series are just the beginning – Matilda, The BFG, The Twits, and many other beloved Dahl stories are set to follow soon!"

While details about the remakes are sparse, Netflix added that the shows will "retain the quintessential spirit and tone of the original story", while Netflix's VP of Original Animation Melissa Cobb added:
"I grew up reading Dahl stories and lived large parts of my young life in those magical worlds, so finding just the right creative partner to bring Willy Wonka, Charlie and the Oompa-Loompas to life in animation was a daunting task […] until Taika walked into the room. Then, it was really obvious. If Dahl had created a character of a filmmaker to adapt his work, I’m pretty sure he would have created Taika."
Jojo Rabbit's Taika concluded, "In the words of Willy Wonka himself – we are ‘Delighted! Charmed! Overjoyed!"
This sounds very exciting, and for now we can only imagine what to expect. Will Matilda be moving Kindles around? Will Charlie be eating cronuts? Will The Twits have Twitter? So many questions!
