There’s nothing more frustrating than watching your takeaway go cold while you endlessly scroll through Netflix in an attempt to find something to watch. We've all been there. Luckily, it seems the Netflix gods have been listening, as they've just released a new feature that'll put an end to that 'what shall we watch' drama.

The streaming giant’s new "Play Something" feature uses algorithms to find a TV show or movie it thinks you’ll love, based on your watch history. Essentially it’s a shuffle function, much like what we’re used to on other apps like Spotify.

"When finding your next story, let the story find you," said Netflix’s director of product innovation, Cameron Johnson, in a statement. "Whether you’re in the mood for a new or familiar favourite, just ‘Play Something’ and let Netflix handle the rest."

Netflix has been testing the feature for a few years and it’s now available on TVs, and due for launch on Android shortly. But, there isn’t a release date just yet for iOS devices or other web browsers.

So how does it work? The "Play Something" button displays in three areas on the platform, under your profile on startup, in the tenth row of your Netflix homepage, and in the navigation menu. Once you click on it, it automatically starts streaming a series or movie. But, if you don’t like what the algorithm chooses for you, there’s a handy "Play Something Else" button.

Netflix users across the world have already taken to socials to praise the feature, with one tweeting that the function would save her marriage.

Netflix currently has 6575 films and TV series on the platform – so hopefully this new feature will find at least something you’ll enjoy watching while you tuck into your takeaway.
