The first part of a new Kanye West documentary, jeen-yuhs, that has been in the works for 20 years, is out on Netflix today (16 February 2022). Recently, Kanye has dominated headlines largely owing to his highly publicised ongoing divorce from Kim Kardashian and for his problematic social media posts, but fans are hoping that the documentary will focus more on his musical talent than personal life. In actuality, it sounds as though it examines both.

Given that it's to be released in three separate parts, the programme will offer up a side of the artist that has never been explored on-camera before, from his early days to life as a controversial, global star now. It'll chronicle his rise to fame, his car accident that inspired songs like Through The Wire, and a lot more. The majority of the footage, if not all, seems to have been shot by the directing duo Clarence "Coodie" Simmons and Chike Ozah (known as Coodie & Chike).

Here's everything we know about Netflix's jeen-yuhs so far...

Do we have a trailer for Netflix's JEEN-YUHS?

We certainly do, it came out on 4 February and begins with a baby-faced Kanye being asked to describe his album, which he calls a "breath of fresh air". Other archive footage shows Kanye working hard in the studio, sharing his hopes for the future and sweet clips of him thanking his mother for raising him – all of which gives an exciting glimpse into what else we can expect from the documentary.

Have a watch here:

When will Netflix's JEEN-YUHS be released?

The first episode of the trilogy drops 16 February and the subsequent two episodes will air weekly, each Wednesday. Broken down into three parts Act 1 is Vision, Act II is Purpose and Act III is Awakening.

What will we see featured in Netflix's JEEN-YUHS?

A whole lot. The Netflix official description says, "Twenty-one years ago, Clarence 'Coodie' Simmons met Kanye West and saw something so special that he moved from Chicago to New York City to document Ye's journey to become the next great rapper. Neither of them had any idea where just how far that journey would take them."

From what we've seen so far, we can expect jeen-yuhs to focus largely on Kanye's music career from the late '90s until the present day. It's also thought that the documentary may explore Kanye’s failed run in the 2020 presidential election, as well as the tragic death of his mother Donda, who sadly passed away in 2007 following complications from cosmetic surgery, though this is yet to be confirmed.

As for Kanye's relationship with former partner Kim Kardashian, it's not yet known how much the pair's marriage or four children will feature, but a clip of Kanye with one of his children is featured in the trailer.

Back in April 2021, it was reported that Netflix bought the series for $30 million (about £21.9 million), according to Billboard. Speaking about it in the new press release, Coodie said, "I knew [Kanye's] style some-what didn’t fit with the rappers back then. It was different. But I knew he was going todo something great. That's the vision. And the genius of the movie is not Kanye, me, or anybody that's in the movie the genius is unlocking the genius in you, that's the purpose."

Happy viewing, one and all!
