Natalie Portman’s vintage Dior dress is giving Black Swan grace
We love a dramatic Cannes Film Festival gown and Natalie Portman gave us exactly that plus some serious Black Swan grace over the weekend.
Natalie appeared alongside her May December co-stars Charles Melton (who you’ll know from Riverdale), Julianne Moore and Cory Michael Smith, as well as acclaimed director Todd Haynes, on the red carpet for the Saturday (May 20) screening of the upcoming film.
The Oscar winning actor paired her delicately embroidered tulle Dior haute couture gala dress – which originally featured in the 1949 AW collection for the Parisian fashion house – with slicked back hair that wouldn’t look out of place in Natalie’s unforgettable Black Swan role.
But the dress that Natalie wore – which is called the Dior "Junon" dress – was actually a special recreation of the iconic vintage gown.
We truly can’t get enough of the magnificent skirt made up of ombré petals that are thought to replicate the look of a peacock’s feathers.
As a Dior Beauty ambassador, Natalie complemented her breathtaking look with simple makeup and stunning Chopard earrings.
As for the movie itself, May December focuses on the lives of Gracie (played by Julianne) and Joe (played by Charles), whose scandalous affair sparked controversy because of their age gap, as well as the fact that Gracie was Joe's boss at the time.
Twenty years later, an actor called Elizabeth (played by Natalie) will be playing Gracie in a film version of the scandal and goes to study the lives of the couple, which puts some pressure on their marriage all these years later.
It definitely sounds like an interesting role. And the crowds at the Festival seemed to agree, with the movie receiving a 6-minute standing ovation.
Let’s just say, we can’t wait to see what Natalie wears on the rest of the press tour!
