Natalie Portman has denied a report noting that she is pregnant and, in the process, sent a message to anyone who continues to push the tiresome, outdated and unwarranted trope of speculating and commenting over women's bodies.

The Oscar-winning actress took to her Instagram Stories over the weekend to condemn an article published in the New York Post's Page Six column reporting that the star had 'stepped out seemingly with a baby bump in Sydney'.

Responding to the reports and paparazzi photographs, Portman shared a screengrab of the article on her Instagram Stories and clarified: 'Hey, so I'm totally not pregnant...'

She continued, telling the outlet: '... But apparently it's still ok in 2021 for anyone to speculate and comment on a woman's body shape. Do better. [sic]'

The actor's comments follow an age-old pattern of high-profile women being forced to deny that they are pregnant following assumptions, rumours and speculation from tabloids and social media users. Over the past year alone, Dua Lipa, Hailey Bieber, Khloé Kardashian and Jennifer Garner have denied being pregnant following similar speculation in other publications and online.

Portman is currently in Sydney filming Marvel's Thor: Love and Thunder film alongside Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, which is directed by Taika Waititi.

In addition to her critically acclaimed and award-winning roles in films like Star Wars, The Black Swan, Jackie, The Other Boleyn Girl and Closer, the Harvard-educated actor is a mother-of-two to son Aleph and daughter Amalia with dancer and choreographer husband Benjamin Millepied.
