Out of this world: Nasa reveals its best photos of the year

Nasa has revealed the winners of a competition to find the best images taken by its 70-strong team of professional photographers.

The Nasa Photographer of the Year competition highlights some of the breathtaking images taken by its staff during 2019.

Stunning pictures capture scientists, astronauts and staff conducting their work across ten field centres across the US.

The contest was split into four categories: “Places”, “Documentation”, “People” and “Portraits”.

After judging hundreds of entries, the winning and runner up snaps were whittled down to just under 10.

Locations include the Goddard Space Centre in Maryland, Florida’s Kennedy Space Center, the Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia and the Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
