Despite Game of Thrones wrapping only a month ago, filming for the upcoming sequel is already underway and actress Naomi Watts has revealed that “fans won’t be let down” by it. The much anticipated spin-off, provisionally titled Bloodmoon, is set 5,000 years before the main show and is set to chart the descent of the Age of Heroes.

50-year-old Watts has been named as a leading character and spoke to the Associated Press about the upcoming role.

“It makes me very excited, yeah, goosebumps all over,” she said of being involved with the new show but did agree it's a big series to follow.

“It is intimidating. It’s very exciting. And yes, having just come off the last series, where the world was blowing up over it.”

“Everything was Game Of Thrones related. All the advertising on TV, every article – everyone’s jumping on that bandwagon. So, it is scary.”

She added: “Hopefully, those fans come along and get to find something new and interesting in this world as well. I think they won’t be let down, it’s a great team of people they’ve put together.”

Back in November 2018, Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the new timeline of the show.

“Westeros is a very different place,” he said. “There’s no King’s Landing. There’s no Iron Throne.

“There are no Targaryens - Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built,” he added. “We’re dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series.”

No air date or production timeline has been set yet but it's thought that if HBO does sign the show after the pilot episode the series would air in 2020 or 2021.

We already can’t wait.
