Naomi Campbell, 51, poses with her infant daughter on British Vogue cover: 'I always knew that one day I would be a mother'
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree for Naomi Campbell's infant daughter. At just 9 months old, the supermodel offspring has already landed her first magazine cover, posing alongside her mother for the March issue of British Vogue.
Though Campbell has yet to publicly disclose her daughter's name, her interview with the fashion magazine — for which she has served as a contributing editor — sees her opening up about life as a first-time mother at 51.
"I always knew that one day I would be a mother, but it's the biggest joy I could ever imagine," the British beauty, who announced her daughter's surprise birth last May, shared. "I'm lucky to have her and I know that.”
She added that she's urging her older friends to follow suit: "I'm telling them all, 'do it! Don’t hesitate!'"
Campbell told only a handful of people that she was expecting a baby, and is withholding further details for a future book. For now, she offers only that "she wasn't adopted — she's my child."
Calling her daughter — who met fellow catwalk queens Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington within weeks of her birth — "the biggest blessing I could ever imagine" and "the best thing I've ever done," Campbell went on to share how motherhood has changed her life.
"I'm like a kid again," she said. "I'm reliving nursery rhymes, playing and discovering how many great new toys there are out there in the world! And dolls! Things I couldn't even dream of."
Though the baby girl appears naked in her cover shoot, she has quite the designer wardrobe, her mother confirms.
"She has a really nice closet thanks to so many designers and friends who have sent her some lovely things, but wow, kids grow fast, don't they?" Campbell shared, adding that her daughter is already a seasoned, fuss-free traveler and a "trooper" when it comes to teething.
"She's a good girl: she sleeps very well, she hardly ever cries and I'm told she's very alert for her age," she said. "She's just started waving, which is fun. She laughs a lot. She's almost talking. I think she might walk before she crawls. And she's got six teeth already.”
While she has a nanny to help with childcare as the small family jets from one glamorous destination to another — "we're world citizens," she explained — Campbell has learned to prioritize her baby above all else.
“My daughter comes first," she shared. "Everything I do, I do for her — that's it. It's so completely selfless, isn’t it?"
She also hasn't ruled out adding to her brood. "Why not?" she laughed to the magazine when asked if she'd like to have another child.
