You should think carefully before naming your little one – as your choice is likely to stick with them for life.

Parents who don't bear this in mind run the risk of their children being teased. And sadly, that's exactly what's happened to one teenager.

The high school student, who wishes to remain anonymous, took to Reddit to share the downsides of being named after a Game of Thrones character. In a candid post, they wrote: "My parents named me after a fantasy TV show character, and it's deeply affected my life.

"I was born just after the first season of the show. They decided to name me after one of the main characters, but it's not her actual name, but instead her title. It's pretty dumb. I've been bullied and made fun of because of it in school. You can probably guess what it is, it's from a dark fantasy TV show with lots of swords and a big throne."

While the name didn't cause any problems initially, it soon led to people judging her. She added: "I remember a teacher asking me if I'm telling the truth when I told her my name when I was about six-ish. I didn't understand stuff like that really.

"I'm considering getting my name changed, but it feels a little wrong to do so. I do feel like it is my own name, and my parents did name me that. I feel like some parents don't get the idea of just how impactful a name actually is. It's the child who will actually be called that."

She went on to explain how her peers started to tease her about her name in regards to her hobbies, which happen to match those of the TV show character.

The teen continued: "Because of my name, I got into horses and horse riding, emulation I suppose. I am who I am because of it, but the bullying recently is getting to me. Lots of 'riding' jokes. I don't hate my parents or anything but I did feel angry at them today over it."

Many shared their sympathies with the high school student after her post went viral. One user said: "One of my friend name her kid Daenerys. Before the end of the show. She probably in middle school by now." And another user added: "I recently saw Moana 2 and when the credits started rolling one of the child voice actors name is Khaleesi."

Meanwhile, others urged her to consider doing something about her unfortunate moniker. A third user said: "As a person who has always hated my name and didn’t know I could change it, I encourage you to change your name. Or, start using a different name."

Brits followed several celebrity trends when it came to naming their children over the past year, with the UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS) dropping its yearly stats for the most favoured baby names in England and Wales.

Bodhi - which is Chloe Madeley and James Haskell's child's name - made one of the lists and there were babies born in Britain called Saint and Reign - both Kardashian kids - and an appearance from Neveah, which is Heaven spelt backwards and one of the names chosen by Jamie Lomas and his fiancee Jess Bell when their daughter was born this summer.
