Working from home meant two years in blissful comfort enjoying the softness of an elastic waistband - thank you tracksuits and leggings.
But now that so many of us are office-bound again, and having social lives, we thank the fashion gods for giving us the John Lewis & Partners Jersey Wide Leg Trousers- complete with an elastic waistband, and in a soft, luxurious jersey.
And, hurrah, in plenty of time for sandal season, the brand has just released a shorter, cropped version of their cult, wide-legged trews, still for the bargain price of £35.
These trousers tick all our comfort boxes without sacrificing one iota of style, the full-length iteration launched in January and quickly sold out due to women purchasing multiple pairs.
If you’re on the petite side, this shorter length means no extra expense getting them taken up (the curse of those of us who are ‘height-challenged’). Plus, no more saturated hems that have been dragged through puddles, either! And this new length is perfect for showcasing your new summer sandals and pedi, too.
Of course, with prices skyrocketing so much that not even Martin Lewis has any advice for us, our wardrobes need to work harder than ever.
These trousers are the last word in versatile, trust us. So much so, we reckon the price per wear will be about 10p by the end of this year.
You can team them with a blazer and smart sandals for work; a pair of cute espadrilles and a pretty blouse for a summer BBQ; or pull them over your swimming costume when you’re hanging out at the poolside bar on your holidays to name a few style iterations.
They come in black and navy - we’re buying both - and the soft, stretchy waistband makes them easy to pull up and down. Major plus point: it won’t dig into your belly no matter what you’ve eaten!
We also love how the wide-legged shape, combined with the fluid, jersey fabric skims your curves giving a hugely flattering silhouette.
They’re machine washable, too, and eco-friendly – the ECOVERO fibres used are from sustainable wood pulp and produced in an environmentally responsible production process.
It’s no surprise, then that the full-length version of these trousers has already attracted over 100 rave reviews with people saying everything from ‘these trousers are so flattering’ to ‘fantastic trousers, great material, very relaxed and flowing’, so we expect the new, cropped version to get as many rapturous comments, too.
