Forget about Bridgerton and The Crown for a moment because there’s a new period drama on the horizon, starring one of our favourite British actors.

Netflix recently announced it’s in the process of adapting the famous - and rather steamy - D.H. Lawrence novel Lady Chatterley’s Lover, which explores a noble woman’s affair with a gamekeeper on her husband’s estate.

If that news alone doesn’t have you on tenterhooks then may we interest you with the fact The Crown’s Emma Corrin has been cast in the lead role of Lady Chatterley?

From the release date to the trailers, here’s everything you need to know about Netflix’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover:

What is the plot of Lady Chatterley’s Lover?

Prepare to feel hot under the collar because Lady Chatterley’s Lover has long caused controversy given its once taboo subject matter and use of sexual terminology.

The novel was first published in Florence in 1928. Four years later an expurgated version was released in England. Astonishingly, it took almost 30 years for the full text to be published in New York City and in 1960 in London, around the same time it was the subject of an obscenity trial (Regina v. Penguin Books, Ltd.) over its use of 'risqué' sexual references.

As for the plot, the books follows the story of Constance (Connie) Chatterley, who is married to a wealthy landowner, Sir Clifford, who is paralysed from the waist down and spends most of his time reading and focussed on his grand estate, Wragby. Out of love and feeling lonely, Connie soon finds herself impassioned by the estate’s gamekeeper, Oliver Mellors. And let’s just say the pair get on swimmingly. Connie must then choose whether to break free from propriety and find happiness with the man she loves or remain in a loveless marriage.

Who has been cast in Lady Chatterley’s Lover?

So far all we know is that Corrin has been cast as Lady Chatterley, and former Skins actor Jack O’Connell will also star opposite Confession actor Matthew Duckett in the TV show.

When will Lady Chatterley’s Lover be released?

Hold your horses, because the TV show hasn’t even been filmed yet, so we don’t expect to hear about a release date for quite some time. According to Netflix principal photography is set to begin in the UK this autumn.

However, that’s not to say fans of the actors and the novel are complaining:
