Despite its harrowing and depressing ending, Netflix's Mother/Android has shot straight into the streaming service's top 10 most-watched, following its release last month. The film follows pregnant Georgia (Chloë Grace Moretz) and boyfriend Sam (Algee Smith), as they search for safety amid an artificial intelligence uprising.

If you're after a Mother/Android sequel, here's what we know so far about a potential second film.

Has another Mother/Android film been announced?

The short answer is no; so far none of the cast and crew have discussed the potential for a second Mother/Android. But that doesn't mean it won't happen - initially after A Quiet Place came out in 2018, the likes of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt were reluctant to do another one, but eventually it was released in 2020.

"I had no intention of doing a sequel because I didn't think that I could come up with anything as organic as the first one was to me and certainly nothing as personal as the first one was to me,” Krasinski told THR at the time. So here's hoping the same happens with Mother/Android.

What have the cast said about a second Mother/Android film?

Though not specifically addressing a sequel, Moretz confirmed to Consequence that her character Georgia is definitely alone now, which could influence what happens next. "[Director Mattson Tomlin] wanted it to be pretty clear – and that last shot of me staring into the camera and being completely gone in a lot of ways depicted everything that we needed to..."

She continued, "When you go through such a harrowing experience and that trauma, you don't react immediately. She probably won't fully process what happened to her for a very long time."

What could happen in a second Mother/Android film?

*Spoilers* The final scenes of the first film see Georgia give up her newborn son, Forest, on a boat taking children to Korea to safety. Her boyfriend Sam died, and we watch Georgia approaching a Portland military base as the final scenes play out.

Could a sequel see her attempting to find Forest in Asia? Could the robots turn to more extreme violence, or humans face an even tougher AI challenge in a second film?

Whatever happens, we'll be ready and waiting for the sequel announcement.
