Most shocking celeb feuds! From Blake Lively’s rifts with co-stars to Tom Hardy's 'explosive' encounter
Rumours of an almighty rift between It Ends With Us stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have been rife for weeks, placing the two leading stars at the centre of a publicity storm. Speculation of a feud started to circulate when Blake, 37, and Justin, 40, failed to do any press together. And it’s since been alleged that things turned frosty due to disagreements between them in the editing room.
Here, we take a look at some of the most shocking behind-the-scenes disputes in Hollywood – from Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron's "explosive" encounter to Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling's screaming matches.
Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni - It Ends With Us
Film fans noticed tension between Blake and Justin at the New York premiere when they chose not to pose for pictures together – despite being the film’s stars. Justin was then absent from the London photocall, fuelling speculation of a rift. Eagle-eyed Instagram users also noticed Blake had unfollowed Justin.

There are a number of reasons why the pair allegedly fell out – from Justin reportedly “fat-shaming” Blake, to her alleged interference in direction (he also directed the film) – but whatever has happened, it’s left a big question mark over a potential sequel.
Alex Pettyfer and Channing Tatum - Magic Mike
According to Alex, Channing was against his casting, saying it was “a big risk” given his bad boy persona. Alex did land the role of teenage stripper Adam, but he said he felt so “scared” that he kept himself to himself on set. Things got worse when Alex rented a house from Channing’s friend and forgot to pay the rent. Alex said Channing sent him an email saying, “Don’t f**k with my friends.” Alex then returned to do reshoots and Channing “had already told everyone he didn’t like me”.
Leighton Meester and Blake Lively - Gossip Girl
Blake apparently found herself at the centre of a feud with Gossip Girl co-star Leighton Meester. The hit TV series, which ran from 2007 to 2012, followed the on/off friendship of Blake’s Serena and Leighton’s Blair.
The show’s executive producer Joshua Safran said the pair “were not friends” in real life, adding, “They were friendly, but they were not friends like Serena and Blair.” According to other sources the pair “avoided each other like the plague” on set and their co-stars felt like they had to “choose sides”.
Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron - Mad Max: Fury Road
It was Tom’s time-keeping that was the catalyst for his feud with Charlize as she grew tired of his lack of punctuality on set. According to camera operator Mark Goellnicht, one incident of tardiness led to an “explosive” encounter between the pair. Both actors have since acknowledged their clash, blaming the production schedule and a lack of trust in each other.
Charlize went on to say they were like “two parents in the front of the car. We were either fighting or we were icing each other – I don’t know which one is worse – and they had to deal with it in the back”.
Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio - Romeo and Juliet
They played star-crossed lovers, but there was no love lost between Claire and Leonardo, according to their co-star Miriam Margolyes. The legendary actress revealed how Claire and Leo’s interactions on set were “painful to watch”.
Claiming Claire was “infatuated” by the then 21-year-old actor, Miriam said, “He wasn’t sensitive to her feelings, was dismissive of her and could be quite nasty in his keenness to get away, while Claire was utterly sincere and so open.” But sources said Claire, who was 17, actually found her co-star “uptight” and thought his on set pranks were tiresome and immature.
Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling - The Notebook
They starred in one of the most romantic films of all time, but Rachel and Ryan initially couldn’t stand each other. According to the film’s director Nick Cassavetes, “They started screaming and yelling at each other.” But the pair managed to get over their row and ended up in a real-life romance, which lasted for two years. Ryan later said, “[The Notebook] introduced me to one of the great loves of my life.”
Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker - Sex and the City
They were the best of friends in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, but behind the scenes Kim and Sarah Jessica were more like frenemies. Things kicked off in 2017 when Kim said she and Sarah Jessica were “never friends” and that they had a “toxic relationship”. SJP responded saying she found Kim’s comments “upsetting” and “not the way I recall our experience”.
However, that didn’t calm things down. The following year Kim branded SJP “cruel” and “a hypocrite” following the death of her brother. She snapped, “Stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.” In 2021, SJP and her SATC co-stars Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon started filming And Just Like That… without Kim. But Kim did in fact film one scene for the spin-off series last year. It was a solo scene of a telephone call – without any of her co-stars.
Florence Pugh and Olivia Wilde - Don't Worry Darling
Rumours of friction between the pair started when Florence seemingly failed to promote the film Olivia had directed. The actress’s absence from the press circuit was put down to her filming Dune: Part Two, but sources claimed it was due to a clash with Olivia. Executives were then forced to deny reports the duo had “a screaming match” on set with one saying it “was probably the most harmonious set I’ve ever been on”.
Olivia also spoke out about the speculation, saying, “It is shocking to see so many untruths about yourself traded as fact.” But many film fans still believe there is no smoke without fire.
