In mid-December each year, search giant Google releases its much-anticipated ‘Year in Search’ report where it rounds up the biggest search terms for the year that’s been.

This year, as well as rounding up the most searched-for people and events, Google has revealed the top travel destinations people have searched for in 2018.

Using the search terms 'flights to' the football world cup seemed to have an impact on trending destinations with Moscow leading the pack.

Kiev and Tenerife came in second and third, with tropical destinations like Seville, Gran Canaria and Sri Lanka and surprising locales like Pakistan, Lanarca, Dalaman and Geneva rounding off the top 10.

You can see the full top 10 list below:

1. Moscow, Russia

2. Kiev, Ukraine

3. Tenerife, Spain

4. Seville, Spain

5. Gran Canaria, Spain

6. Geneva, Switzerland

7. Dalaman, Turkey

8. Sri Lanka

9. Lanarca, Cyprus

Google’s more general search list saw the football world cup as the most searched-for term this year, followed by Meghan Markle and the Royal Wedding between Meghan and Prince Harry.
