Baby name trends change from year to year, but they can also vary based on the month the child is born in.

When it comes to parents who are expecting babies over the festive period, a recent poll has found that Christmas plants and biblical names are among the most popular this year.

Parenting support website Emma's Diary quizzed over 680 UK parents expecting babies this December on their name choices. The survey found that the top name for baby girls this Christmas is Ivy, a traditional name which means 'faithfulness'. This was followed by Holly, which is rooted in festive spirit, and Noelle, the feminine form of the name Noel meaning 'Christmas' in French.

For boys, there was a strong biblical influence with Joseph being the favourite. This was followed by Nicholas, a nod to Saint Nicholas who has been transformed into the legendary Santa Claus, and then the ever-popular Matthew.

Faye Mingo, from Emma's Diary commented: "As always, choosing the right name is an important decision for any parent and this year we can see that the season has had a definite impact on the choice of names with influences of the traditional and also trending names for this year."

Other favoured seasonal names that didn't quite make the top 10 were Snow, Star, Noel, Noah, Jacob, Angel, and Gabrielle. See the list in full below:
