Cruise passengers can journey to the most remote corners of Earth on a new world expedition voyage, launching in 2021, which will visit six continents in 167 days.
Sailing on the 254-passenger Silversea Cloud, the luxury cruise will begin in Ushuaia, Argentina, and finish in Tromsø, Norway, stopping at 107 ports in 30 countries on the way, Silversea has announced.
Almost 60 per cent of the destinations will be remote and accessed by Zodiac inflatable boats. Expert speakers, including explorers, an astronomer and an archeologist/anthropologist, will enhance the wildlife, the nature and cultural sites experienced throughout the cruise.
The itinerary will comprise of nine legs, each of around two to four weeks. From Argentina, the ship will take the bucket-list voyage through Drake Passage followed by overnight stays in the Antarctic Peninsula. Then it is on to the mountains, waterfalls and islands of the Chilean Fjords and the English Narrows, along with four stops in mainland Chile.
Continuing from Valparaiso, passengers will explore the Unesco World Biosphere reserves of Robinson Crusoe Island and Alexander Selkirk Island before spending two days on Easter Island.
Next they’ll meet descendants of the famous Bounty mutineers in Pitcairn before exploring the islands of French Polynesia. This will be followed by stops in the Cook Islands, including Aitutaki (dubbed “the world’s most beautiful island” by Lonely Planet co-founder Tony Wheeler); Samoa, where they’ll discover a traditional village, and Papua New Guinea.
In Australia, there will be city stops in Cairns and Darwin, plus a chance to explore the wild Kimberley region. Then, from Singapore the ship will head to Indonesia (highlights include an orangutan sanctuary), Sri Lanka and India (including an overnight stop in Cochin).
On the leg from India to Greece, there will be an opportunity for a behind-the-scenes exploration of Luxor, Egypt and a sailing through the Suez Canal.
European city calls will include Athens, Seville, Lisbon and London. History buffs will lap up the sights of Greece, Albania, Tunisia and Spain, from the Parthenon to the Unesco-protected buildings of Seville.
The trip will end with an exploration of the natural wonders of Iceland and Norway, from glaciers to Atlantic puffins.
