This Morning had a bit of a change-up from its usual Friday edition today (February 28) as Ruth Langsford was noticeably absent.

Instead, Eamonn Holmes hosted the show with relief presenter Rochelle Humes, and explained his wife's absence in typical Eamonn style.

Opening the show Eamonn joked: "Welcome to This Morning, lots of you thinking Ruth looks really well today but no-" to which Rochelle replied "Every time you say the same thing and I tell you not to do that!"

Eomonn followed up by clarifying (kind of) why Ruth was absent: "Ruthie's got other things to do today [so] she can't be here, but Rochelle and I are pairing up".

Eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed the small detail of changing the presenters' mugs with the hosting swap. Rochelle quipped: "I always say they don't have to change the mugs, the cups can stay the same – E and R. It works, we like it. I'm Mrs Holmes for the day!"

Eamonn and Ruth regularly present This Morning on Fridays, while Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield host the show on the other days of the week.

Meanwhile, Phillip recently defended Eamonn after the latter made a joke following his coming out a few weeks ago.

"I am disappointed in a couple of ways," Eamonn said at the time. "First of all, I thought you were going to come in and announce you had resigned and I could have your job, but that wasn't to be."

He also joked it was a "great imponderable in life" that Phillip's wife and Holly Willoughby's husband never had "a problem" with the two presenters sharing a hot tub.

Phillip subsequently said on social media: "Can I just say that @EamonnHolmes & @RuthieeL were utterly magnificent with me today... And for the record, [he] made me laugh, he lightened a very emotional moment and I'm very happy that he did."

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am.
